Congratulations to Hopkin’s Construction for winning the 2009 Crescenta Valley Little League Junior Championship.  The “boys in blue” got off to a quick start against the two other formidable CV teams, beat both teams twice.  This enabled Hopkins to clinch the division early and experiment with different pitching rotations and line ups in the final two games.  Hopkins ended their championship season with a 4-1-1 record against CVLL teams.
Anyone who has been involved in Crescenta Valley Little League will undoubtedly recognize most of the players on the 2009 Hopkins roster.  There were 12 formal CVLL major players on the roster.  The other two roster spots were taken up by all-star pitcher, Mike Yamerone, and ex-Foothill Little League all-star, Jonny Yentch.   To say we were deep would be an understatement.  In fact, every player on the roster at one time or another pitched for the team.   Couple that with every player possessing the skills and ability to play an infield position and we had all the ingredients for a championship year.
The leadership on the team came from the six 14 and 15 year-old players on the roster.  Four of these players were returning from all-star campaigns in the 2008 Junior season.  Throughout the year, they led the team by showing the “new” 13 year olds how to carry themselves on the field and overcome adversity during any game.  The eight 13 year-olds were quick learners and easily transitioned to the “big” field.  It was wonderful for the 15 year-olds to conclude their Little League careers with a championship.
Special recognition and thanks needs to be given to the two extraordinary coaches, Steve Yamerone and Craig Beatty.  Also, thanks to our provisional coach and scorekeeper, Omar Peraza, and our team coordinator, Lori Westhoff.  And a special thanks to the parents and fans for their dedication and support throughout the season.
Great job on a wonderful and successful season.  Congratulations!
